Eugenie Bouchard will be going home but she shouldn't feel too down hearted, only her 4th Grand Slam tournament and already a Semi Finalist, plus AUD $540,000 to boot... but it was Na Li who took the honours with a straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in a match lasting just under an hour and a half...
Dominika Cibulkova though, will currently be on cloud nine after her match with Agnieszka Radwanska as it sees the #20 seed into the Final with another impressive 6-1, 6-2 victory, and she only needed 70 minutes to do so...
So we know the Finalists, and if you took Cibulkova pre-tournament, you could have got her up as high as 300/1, needless to say, I didn't...
Na is 1/3 favourite with the Slovakian around 12/5... Even though Ciblkova is playing superbly, Li Na should win this... but 1/3 ain't no value, but 5/2 for a 2-1 win may be...
Oh yes, and there's the matter of taking home a minimum $1,325,000, while the winner has a nice juicy $2,650,000, not bad is it... -

The first of the Men's Semi Finals was also settled earlier today, Tomas Berdych and the man of the moment Stanislas Wawrinka.
It promised to be a good match up so when Wawrinka took the first set, it was all on Berdych to make it happen... and make it happen he did as each of the next 3 sets went to tie-breakers, unfortunately, they didn't all go his way... so Stan 'The Man' progresses to the Final 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 and sets up the prospect of an all Swiss Final, imagine the odds you would have gotten on that before the tournament... In fact you could have gotten Stan at around 66/1 Pre-Tournament, couple that with Cibulkova and you would be sitting very pretty indeed had you picked hose 2, I doubt many did though...
So, in the morning, and not before 08.30am our time (you may as well this as watch the England cricket team get hammered again...) there will be the 33rd match up between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. It's currently 22-10 in Nadal's favour, and he has also won the last 4 meetings. It's 4/7 for Nadal, with Roger around 11/8, with little real value to be had unless it all goes tits up in this match as even the Total Games and Total Sets odds are really pants, >3.5 sets 4/11 and >40.5 Games 8/13.
If I had to pick, I'd go for Roger, although maybe that's more wanting him to, than actually thinking he will.... Besides I don't really like Rafa, so would love to see him out... -

After a cagey first set which went to the tie break, it was business as normal for Rafa as he eased into another Slam Final 7-6, 6-3, 6-3...
Federer let him dominate and was forced into playing the baseline game which he was not going to win, even Rafa's hand blisters was not going to stop the Spaniard trying to claim his 14th Slam title...
and to do that he needs to beat Stan Wawrinka, which I think he will do, although maybe not as easily as with Federer, but that depends on how Stan is holding up, will his nerves get the better of him?
1/7 for Rafa with Stan around 9/2, I think I'll be laying Stan on the exchanges, unless he moves to stupid odds, currently around 5.9 on Betfair... -

Time for the Women's Final, and the big question is... Can Dominika Cibulkova make that extra effort and take the title? Not if Li Na has anything to do with it...
An exciting 70 minute first set sees it go to the tie break which Li Na wins in some style 7-3... and that was when the #4 seed kicked into overdrive and went headlong for her 2nd Grand Slam title, winning 7-6, 6-0 which doesn't really do Cibulkova justice at all...

So Li wins what is effectively her 'home' slam and she looked rather pleased with herself.... So did Dominika, and so she should, perhaps she thinking how to spend 841,750.24 EUR , bummer eh!!! -

The first big event of the year sees Stanislas Wawrinka who has been playing his socks off so far going or the title against Rafael Nadal, and in all honesty, you would really have to back Nadal for this...
But that's not how it all went down, no sir... With no real signs of any nerves plaguing him, Stan managed to keep his form and break down the Spaniard...
But then Nadal, had a little medical time out with his back, seems he was suffering a bit with a problem..., then he came back to make a fight of it, but that wasn't enough as the Swiss #2 and soon to be World #3 sees of the World #1 as well as the #2 to grab his first Slam title 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
What a strange tournament... let's see if these guys and gals can keep up their good form over the next few months...

Novak Djokovic: Australian Open champion knocked out by world 117 Denis Istomin
Defending champion Novak Djokovic suffered a shock defeat by world number 117 Denis Istomin in the second round of the Australian Open.
The six-time winner struggled for rhythm and lost 7-6 (10-8) 5-7 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in four hours and 48 minutes.
It is the first time Djokovic, 29, has lost in the second round of a Grand Slam since 2008 at Wimbledon.

Australian Open 2017: Andy Murray suffers shock defeat by Mischa Zverev
Andy Murray's hopes of winning a first Australian Open title ended with a shock defeat by world number 50 Mischa Zverev of Germany in the fourth round.
Murray, the world number one, dropped serve eight times as Zverev won 7-5 5-7 6-2 6-4 on Rod Laver Arena.
It is the Briton's earliest defeat in Melbourne since 2009, and the lowest-ranked player he has lost to at a Grand Slam since the 2006 Australian Open
Not as bad as it seems at least he can come home and rest,he must be fucking knackered

Australian Open 2017: Roger Federer wins to set up Stan Wawrinka semi-final
Four-time champion Roger Federer coasted into the Australian Open semi-finals with a straight-set defeat of unseeded Mischa Zverev in 92 minutes.
The 35-year-old reached the last four in Melbourne for a 13th time with a 6-1 7-5 6-2 win over Zverev, who upset world number one Andy Murray on Sunday.
Federer, seeded 17th as he seeks an 18th Grand Slam title, faces compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the last four.
Federer is the oldest men's singles semi-finalist at the tournament since Arthur Ashe in 1978, and the oldest at any Grand Slam since Jimmy Connors reached the 1991 US Open last four aged 39. -

Venus Williams rolls back the years to reach Australian Open semi-finals at 36
The first Australian Open quarter-final started at brunch for Melburnians, supper time for Americans, but in the end Venus Williams had Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for lunch on Rod Laver Arena. The 36-year-old veteran wound back the clock to beat world No27 Anastasia Pavlyuchenko in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), and set up a semi-final appearance so unlikely that if she wins it and the outing after that, they should honestly make her a bigger trophy. :D -

Rafael Nadal beats Milos Raonic to reach Australian Open semi-finals
Rafael Nadal reached his first Grand Slam semi-final since 2014 with a superb 6-4 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 victory over Canada's third seed Milos Raonic.
The 14-time Grand Slam winner, who has been troubled by injuries in recent years, saved six set points in the second set before dominating the third.
Nadal, the 2009 champion, faces 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov on Friday after the Bulgarian beat David Goffin.
Nadal is attempting to become the first man in the Open era - and only the third man in history after Roy Emerson and Rod Laver - to win each of the four Grand Slam titles twice.
