With the Euros now expanded to 24 teams, the top two from each qualifying group will go through automatically, along with the best third placed side. Then the rest of the third placed teams will be drawn against each other in play-offs.
As well as tonight's opponents, England's group contains San Marino, Estonia, Slovenia and Lithuania. We'll clearly qualify automatically, probably even win it, and be all set for another disappointing summer in 2016.
So it's a shame for Roy Hodgson that the one game with potential to cause England problems also happens to be the first, and comes so soon after a disastrous World Cup. The Swiss are ranked 9th in the world (vs England at 20) and are actually 17/10 favourites for this one (vs England at 19/10). The draw (11/5) would be a decent result really but anything other than a win will have the papers calling for his head tomorrow morning.
With no Daniel Sturridge, and Jordan Henderson a major doubt too, it doesn't look likely. You know what does? A Switzerland win and under 2.5 goals double at 10/3. Or, though this might be a little generous towards England, the home win with BTTS at 5/1.
If we're calling English scorers it'll have to be Sterling again at 3/1 any time but you're better off backing the Swiss. More specifically, Drmic at 2/1 or Shaqiri at 3/1. 8/1 on the latter scoring first might be a decent shout too.
Prediction: 2-0 (10/1)
