  Planned release for Star Trek Into Darkness, May 17th 2013
  After being called back home, the crew of the Enterprise find a seemingly unstoppable force which has attacked Starfleet and left the planet in chaos. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise are tasked with leading the deadly manhunt to capture the party responsible and settle an old score.

  Star Trek Into Darkness has released an extended trailer that appears to contain a homage to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
  From 0:56 onwards, the Japanese trailer contains footage not included in the US and UK versions, in which Kirk and Spock appear to re-enact a scene from Nicholas Meyer's beloved 1982 film.
  "Is there anything you would not do for your family?" Cumberbatch's villain asks in voiceover, as Kirk and Spock's hands touch through a pane of glass, recalling the pair's iconic farewell scene from The Wrath of Khan
  Ever since Cumberbatch was announced as the film's villain, speculation has been rife regarding the identity of his character, with many fans suggesting that he would play Khan.
  However, a number of sources close to the film including Simon Pegg denied the rumour, insisting that Cumberbatch would not take on the role made famous by Ricardo Montalban.
  Another report suggested that Cumberbatch would play Gary Mitchell, a former friend of Kirk's who was transformed into a ruthless megalomaniac by an encounter with a galactic barrier.
  The identity of Cumberbatch's character has still not been revealed, but the Sherlock star has described the role as "iconic", and explained that the character is morally grey rather than black or white.

  So there is still lots of speculation as to who Cumberbatch will be playing, Khan and Mitchell both have strong voices being banded around, although it seems that Khan is the favoured. I'm sure we will soon find out, loose lips (if they can be believed) will be bound to happen.

  On Sunday night, the first nine minutes of the eagerly anticipated sequel were unveiled in IMAX 3-D to an eager audience of journalists in Los Angeles, and if they are any indication, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew have been awfully busy.
  Director J.J. Abrams introduced the footage himself, asking only that the crowd not reveal the minute-by-minute details of the opening of the film.
  Four years will have passed before the reconstituted crew of the starship enterprise return to the big screen in "Star Trek Into Darkness"
  Kirk and McCoy bicker. Spock and Uhura flirt. And Scotty is more exasperated than ever. Meanwhile, the mysterious villain of the film, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, remains just that , or at least was as he has apparently been named as John Harrison.
  A caption released to go with the image #1 (below) "(Left to right) Zachary Quinto is Spock, Benedict Cumberbatch is John Harrison and Chris Pine is Kirk in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions."
  ‘John Harrison’ is not a name from Star Trek, and it doesn’t make sense for the studio to mess around with a new villain when you have a fan base as rabid as the Trekkies…so if we’re making up names, shit is real. Shit. Is. Real. They have no reason to make up a fake name for Gary Mitchell, since hardly anyone knows who that is, unless they’re huge fans of the series. And finally, just in case you needed any more hints that it’s Khan, Cumberbatch called his character both ‘iconic’ and ‘memorable’
  
  Also revealed is brit Alice Eve and her character was revealed to be none other than Dr. Carol Marcus (pic #2). Which may mean nothing to those not steeped in the canon of Trek, but to those who do, her character certainly lends credence to the notion that Cumberbatch's villain reveal may be a bit of a misdirect. Because Dr. Carol Marcus notably made her debut in the Star Trek universe in a little movie called The Wrath of Khan.
  
  JJ Abrams is famous for squeaking out info and giving out duff info, so will it actually be Khan? the mystery continues

  Cheers russy, im into the owld trek stuff but ill wait for the blu ray, might get to excited in the flicks an make a show of meself shouting obsenities at the Borg! my fav 1 was First Contact, poor owld JLP traumatised reliving his assimilation 'Lacutis' see you thought i was fuckin about didnt ya, but i am a closet treky!   No need for the 'closet' mate, state it out loud and proud... I associate more with JLP, due to certain striking similarities lol
  Although I do like this new Trek lot, Shatner was great in his day, still is IMO, but it needed updating and so far they have done a bang up job.

  I love Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock! I must admit that I am not a 'trekkie' but I did love the 2009 reboot and can't wait to see this sequel! I am interested to know who Benedict will be playing because I have heard so many theories flying around. Whovever it is, I'm sure he will be great and this film will be amazing. [img]https://[/img]

  And yes, we're still not quite sure of the exact identity of the villain Benedict Cumberbatch is supposed to be playing in May's “Star Trek Into Darkness.” Actually, we were about to throw in the towel on trying to figure it out, even admitting to ourselves that maybe there's really nothing secret at all about who the bad guy is and maybe he's just indeed some dude named "John Harrison" ...
  ... and then the new Entertainment Weekly came out.
  The cover of the February 15th issue of the magazine has been revealed, titled "Voyage Into the New 'Star Trek'" and featuring a shot of Cumberbatch and Chris Pine's Captain Kirk (well, one of the covers, anyway -- an alternate features Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock). Now, this may not be anything more than just a reference to a rumor that refuses to die, but the companion headline to the issue on EW's Back Issues store says "Voyage Into the New 'Star Trek' Kirk & Khan."
