  43 years after it was released, it turns out Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven isn't quite as Led Zeppelin as they'd have you believe.

  Then compare it with this, a 1968 song called Taurus, by Spirit:
  
  
  
  It's not like it's only just been pointed out or anything (they're pretty bloody similar after all), more that it took the family of Spirit's guitarist Randy California this long to get the money together to sue.
  
  Here's what he had to say about it in 1997, the year he died: "The guys made millions of bucks on it and never said 'Thank you,' never said, 'Can we pay you some money for it?'"
  
  "It's kind of a sore point with me. Maybe someday their conscience will make them do something about it."
  
  Maybe conscience, maybe the fact that the issue could scupper any Led Zeppelin IV re-issue. It'll probably be the latter.

  Whinging TWAT! ok it sounds similar but its bound to, its just a natural A minor chord progression! i mean what next, Clapton sues Gilmore coz White Room was out before Another Brick in the Wall and they're both in D minor? 'In the white room, near a station, leave them kids alone' there are absolutely hundreds if not thousands of songs that sound the same! wasnt there someone a couple of years ago saying George Harrison had ripped them for Here Comes the Sun?

  Agree with you to a point, but it's exactly the same pace and picked on an acoustic guitar too.

  Does seem more than a coincidence how similar they are, yes to an extent it can happen accidentally but that sounds too similar in structure to me to be a purely accidental similarity.
  Thing is though even if it was stolen from that song the lawyers for Led Zeppelin will be much more expensive and will probably make sure it's found to be a total coincidence.

  There's a similar thing with Tom Petty's 'Mary Jane's Last Dance' and RHCP 'Dani California' and Petty is along the lines of "tonnes of songs sound the same".
  
  Admittedly when you're loaded it's easier to have the I-don't-give-a-fuck attitude.

  It is similar but not exactly the same. What is new about that. This has been going on in music forever. There are only so many chord combinations possible and if you try hard enough you can find a similarity between at least two songs through out the history of music. At least it is not as bad as the blatant sampling that goes on in rap and hip hop.
