  BBC Sport announced last year that it would review the shortlisting process for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Following an extensive consultation process the shortlist will from this year be decided by an expert panel, bringing it in line with many other major industry awards.
  
  The 2012 panel will be made up of: Director of BBC Sport (Barbara Slater, Chair), BBC Head of TV Sport (Philip Bernie), Executive Editor of BBC Sports Personality of the Year (Carl Doran); from BBC Radio 5 Live – (Eleanor Oldroyd, Presenter, 5 live Sport); three newspaper sports editors (to be rotated annually) who in 2012 will be Mike Dunn, Sports Editor, The Sun, Lee Clayton, Head of Sport, The Daily Mail and Matthew Hancock, Sports Editor, The Observer; a pan-sports broadcaster/journalist - (Sue Mott); three former nominees (to be appointed annually) who in 2012 will be Sir Steve Redgrave, Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson and Denise Lewis OBE; along with Baroness Sue Campbell, Chair of UK Sport.
  
  The Panel will endeavour to produce a shortlist based on reaching a consensus view. If a consensus view cannot be reached on all the candidates, then the panel will be asked to vote for the remaining candidates. In the event of a tied vote, the Chairperson’s decision will be binding.

  for me its gotta be mo farah his story is way better than the rest he won two gold medal in massively long races not a quick sprit and let no for get the mobot craze he started lol

  Yea im supprised Wiggo isnt in it, i thought he'd have won it! out of the list youve put up there uubba not sure who id LIKE to see win it, David Weir has a good chance, but i think it will probably be won by Mo Farah, if the hysteria in the studio during his races is anything to go by.

  Shocked there's no Bradley Wiggins. I think from that list it'll be Farah, Ennis or Weir, and possibly Hoy. Not sure who I'd pick - they've all had a pretty successful year. I'd probably go for Ennis as she's easiest on the eye lol.

  yeah I thought Uubbas list was weird??, the bookies are offering to win w/o Wiggins as an incentive to get your money, looks like they have him as a certain tap in for the top spot, as the odds show. Mo's recent publicity has shot him into second spot, but you never know. I really can't see anyone from the top four above getting into the top 3 on the night, or at least I would be very surprised if they did.
  I'm rooting for Murray as I have cash on him lol
  
  Beeb reports this;
  Olympic and Paralympic athletes dominate the shortlist for the 2012 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
  Cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy, tennis star Andy Murray, and athletes Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah are candidates in a 12-strong list.
  Rower Katherine Grainger, golfer Rory McIlroy, boxer Nicola Adams and sailor Ben Ainslie are other hopefuls.
  Paralympians Sarah Storey, Ellie Simmonds and David Weir also make the list for the award on 16 December
  Three former Sports Personality nominees were on an expert panel which decided the shortlist, and the winner will be decided by a public vote on the night.
  The panel was put together following criticism of an all-male list decided via a different method in 2011.
  The 2000 winner Sir Steve Redgrave, Baroness Grey-Thompson and Denise Lewis were joined by Baroness Campbell, chair of UK Sport, and representatives from the BBC and the newspaper industry

  I think its gotta be Jessica Ennis she won gold with record points in the heptathlon and was the face of London 2012 with comes with a lot of pressure. Also i think she is a great role model for young girls growing up to aspire to
