  I'm a spurs fan I thought we got the decent manager and then I relies we have got a bunch of over paid players that would struggle to get in the Southampton team. It would be nice if they stay in the top 4 till the end of the season.

  So 7 wins out of 8 in the league. I don't care how 'easy' the fixtures have been, that's bloody impressive. The media are talking it down as though any other half decent side would have got similar results, but looking at who everyone bar Chelsea have dropped points against so far that's clearly not the case. The run's included away victories at West Ham, Swansea and Hull too, not many teams will come away from those three grounds with maximum points this season.
  
  Obviously our form won't stay at this level when the fixture list turns, but the big sides won't fancy playing us either, and we will pick up some points during that period. Fully expecting us to still be top four come January.
  
  And maybe at the end of the season too. We're not gonna get past Chelsea, City or Arsenal, but Liverpool and Spurs don't look much like challenging at the moment. Biggest threat is probably United assuming they get their act together. But will they? Probably. But will they?

  I think you'll drop off at some point. Since 2006's Wigan there's always been one team doing better than usual for the first half of the season only to drop off around Jan/Feb. It'd be cool if you could keep it going to the end but I have to go by what history tells us ;)

  Yeah you're probably right. Top six looks possible though, and seeing as we finished 8th last season and have a better side now, wouldn't be completely ridiculous.

  Well:
  
  - They won 3-1 away at West Ham, where Liverpool lost 3-1 and Manchester City lost 2-1.
  
  - They won 4-0 at home to Newcastle, a fixture Spurs lost 2-1.
  
  - They won 1-0 away at Swansea, where Arsenal lost 2-1 and against whom Manchester United lost at home and Everton drew 0-0.
  
  - They beat Leicester 2-0. Manchester United lost 5-3 and Arsenal drew 2-2 against them.
  
  - They beat Sunderland 8-0, against whom Manchester United and Everton both drew 1-1.
  
  - They beat Stoke 1-0, who Spurs and Manchester City have both lost at home to.
  
  I think you see my point. It does not matter that Southampton have lost to both Liverpool and Spurs, because right now they sit a combined 22 points ahead of them. The Premier League does not award extra points for the standard of opposition defeated, and right now only Southampton and Chelsea appear capable of beating the supposedly weaker teams regularly.
  
  In the last five seasons, the average points total required to finish ahead of fifth place is 68.6. A continuation of their current record would see Southampton achieve 86 points. Even with the assumed slump the Saints may suffer, the foundation is in place for an outstanding assault on the top four.

  I'll be amazed if you're still in the top four come February. Your upcoming fixture list is like walking into Mordor and one does not simply do that!

  We'll drop some points, but United and Arsenal (I'm ignoring Spurs and Liverpool for now) will both need to put a pretty special run together to catch us.
  
  Still early days of course, but everyone else's inconsistency is just as encouraging as our good form.
