Obviously a fractured spine is pretty serious, but things clearly could have been way, way worse. The seventeen year-old German racer is conscious, stable and well enough to Tweet. You'd take that, wouldn't you?
Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into Surgery tomorow morning. Thanks to the @fia and @hwaag_official@MercedesAMGF1 who are taking great care of me. Thanks to everybody for the Supporting messages. Update soon.

That crash was brutal, anyone know what happened? She seems to have been going 10x faster than any other car, like she had been launched with a rocket attached

As much as it’s a bad thing she’s fractured her spine . That very well could have been a fatal crash in years gone by .
Apparently there’s a good chance she’ll make a full recovery.

I wonder if any of the photographers hiding behind that corrugated iron stand she hit, held their nerve and kept shooting, because they would have got some spectacular shots.

That is absolutely insane. She just come out of nowhere like a rocket. Hard to believe anyone could survive that but I guess these cars are so safe these days that the chances of surviving something like that are much higher than they used to be.

Does prove how successful all the safety upgrades in cars have been over the years. Looks easily fatal but might not even leave lasting damage, she is apparently up and wanting to start driving again soon.
