Some really scary airports
Obviously, you have normal airports with the normal runways and various vehicles zipping around the apron. However, there are some runways out there which are certainly designed in a different way. Some of them quite scary to land on and take off from. Here are some:
![]() This airport is the Gustaf III airport in St Barts (a Caribbean island). The descent is over a busy road and the airstrip is tiny so much so that pilots need special training to be able to land there. At the end of the airstrip there, you can see a nice beach. Then you realise that for takeoff this plane just skims the holidaymakers heads as it flies off so yeah now not so nice. ![]() This is the Tenzing-Hillary airport in Nepal and it is perched on a mountain ridge. You see at the end of the runway there? Yeah that's a 9200ft drop. To top it all off, there are no radar or navigation devices at the airport. ![]() This is the Gibraltar airport and this one is intersected by a main road. Yep that's right. The traffic has to be halted every time a plane lands or takes off. ![]() This is Paro Airport in Bhutan where it is nestled among the Himalayan mountains 1.5 miles above sea level. The planes have to weave through loads of houses scattered across the mountainside and face strong winds. |

RE: Some really scary airports
those are great lol, but on approach i guess you just have to hope that no one put up a chimney or forgot to trim the hedges in their back garden lol, otherwise you crash into them...

RE: Some really scary airports
That's a brilliant way to wake up.
"Damnit another plane just landed in the bloody garden again". 'Anyway, he's an undead. I don't see how you can save undeads. It's a sort of contradiction in terms.' 'A dichotomy,' said the Bursar helpfully. 'Oh, I don't think surgery is involved.' |
