Today, we have technology all over the place but at certain times in the past, they were only just getting developed. Here are some:
RFIDs
This technology was originally used in World War II in radar systems and then in the 1980s it was used in automated toll payment systems.
GUI
The first graphical user interface was invented by Douglas Englebart in 1968 and then in the 1970s and 1980s the design got more advanced mostly thanks to Apple. So now, we have easy to use interfaces and graphical controls.
Social Networking
The very earliest social networking site was "SixDegrees.com" from 1997 but social networks really kicked off with the introduction of MySpace in 2003 and that's when it started appealing to people. Now we have Facebook, Twitter etc.
E-Commerce
Most of our shopping nowadays is done via online shopping. When the internet started being used for commercial use, companies could capitalise on electronic transactions.
PC/Laptop Computers
The year of 1981 was a big year for computers with IBM launching their new 5150 model and a portable computer called the Osborne 1 was born.
Internet/Broadband/World Wide Web
Where would we be without the internet and the World Wide Web? Google, Twitter, our ability to keep up to date with current new, sending and receiving emails and more. The internet has enabled us to do many things since it first started in the 1990s and now it's everywhere.
