George St Pierre has beaten Carlos Condit, although not easily.

The prospect of a showdown with Anderson Silva now looms. Big money, big risk. Silva is a lot bigger, is a superior striker to Condit, who had GSP in trouble.

It's obvious Silva wants this fight, so it's now down to GSP to either take or refuse this fight. Should it happen?

Also, who thinks Silva is just a big pussy for being SO willing to fight GSP and ABSOLUTELY unwilling to fight Jones (while giving no good reason whatsoever for refusing)?

I think the fight will happen. GSP said he has really only started doing proper strength work since he got injured and he looked bigger than usual against Condit. He might want another fight first though.

Silva wants the fight as he knows his striking is much better than GSP and probably thinks GSP won't be able to take him down due to the size difference. He's also probably thinking of the payday as he's 36 or 37 now so probably does'nt have many fight left.

It is a double standard that he's willing to fight a smaller guy in GSP but not Jones but would'nt most fighters do the same.

randy couture didn't do the same, fedor didn't do the same, dan henderson didn't do the same...

well anyway, part of me think it would be an interesting fight to watch, but the other part says that if (when) silva wins, it's bullshit, cuz he doesn't deserve much credit for a victory like that. i'd love to see gsp win in that case

he has given a reason he said jones is basically a heavey weight and gsp is more his weight but i dont think gsp should fight silva i like to see jonny get the next shot that guy is a beast plus no1 takes jonny down so it will make for a good fight i think
and the weight class is as stacked as it has ever been so doing this now makes the least sense to me

from what i understand silva walks around 225+, jon jones walks around maybe 240 or less, not exactly sure about that. plus anderson shoud take ownership of the fact that he is amazingly SKILLED. stephan bonnar is a BIG guy. forrest griffin is a BIG guy. and he fought them... he just won't admit that he's scared of jones. which is fine, but just looks very shitty when he is so ready to challenge a smaller guy

You have me there. I think Silva seems to care a lot about his reputation an is more careful about who he fights then the guys above who did'nt seem as concerne about their ecords and seemed more concerned about proving people wrong

yea exactly, and jon jones is kind of the same. wouldn't fight Chael at 8 days notice lol

anyway, i think in the end this fight may well happen.

ultimately, no one can say shit to GSP if he decides to turn this fight down, imo not even dana white will push him on that he HAS to do it... but he will throw mad money his way and that might just make him do it

How much of an issue do ye think the size dfference is in either fight GSP v Silva or Jones v Silva. There is only one weight class between them and there are plenty of fighters who have often moved between two weight classes.

i think it's a factor for GSP vs silva but not for silva vs jones.

Its not Jones' size that scares silva, it's the fact that if sonnen can take him down, jones KNOWS he can take him down. if jones as big as he is, but a useless wrestler, silva would be much more willing to fight him. the fact that jones is bigger obv makes it even worse.
So silva easily gets away with not facing a guy who is a bad matchup for him.

GSP is apprehensive to fight silva because he would have a striking disadvantage against a bigger opponent.

And yet GSP is being asked strongly to do this, while silva gets away with not facing jones
Basically, GSP is being asked to compensate for Silva being scared to face jon jones. that's what's going on here.

Anderson Silva is only interested in fighting guys that are smaller than him or at the end of their careers.

GSP is a small middle weight that fights at welter weight for fuck sake. Silva is a natural Light Heavy Weight and sometimes goes up in weight to 220 lbs. Jon Jones would murder Silva, but GSP would have a good chance still because his wrestling is outstanding and he is a true athlete, something that Silva has trouble with

oh and Jon Jones walks around at roughly 220 occasionally 230 lbs, so he and Silva aint that much of a difference
