It's just been reported that Sachin Tendulkar will retire from all forms of cricket after playing his 200th Test next month.

The 40-year-old former India captain, who retired from one-day internationals in December 2012, will end his career with two matches against West Indies.

"It's hard to imagine a life without playing cricket because it's all I've ever done since I was 11," he said.

Tendulkar is the highest scorer in both Tests and ODIs, with 15,837 runs in 198 Tests and 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs.

He made his international debut aged 16 in November 1989 and last year became the only batsman in the history of the game to reach 100 international centuries.

"All my life, I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years," he said.

I think this comes at just the right time, maybe even a little late, he's not been performing well for some time, but who would dare drop this 'Legend' from the squad, unless he made the decision (there'd be riots in the streets...), but here common sense has to prevail and whether it's his decision or having been asked to 'retire', either way it's happening... The 200th test landmark being fitting for him to bow out, as he has so many records, it's hard to believe that anyone will match or best these for quite some time...

Sir Alex Ferguson is Man Utd manager
Ryan Giggs plays for Man Utd
    Tendulkar plays for India

2 of the 3 constants in life gone!

Well it is going to be a sad day when Sachin retires, personally think he should have gone out on a bigger stage then a test series against the West Indies but there you go

The 'little master' as he is known in India. A superstar cricketer who let his bat dictate what people thought of him. To play at that level of consistency for that long. Sheer class and that is coming from a supporter of their fierce rivals. Pakistan.

Just to further enforce what a major player this guy is. He has dictated where his final test will take place. They have arranged the test to be at his home ground. Not even the likes of Shane Warne were able to do that.

So his 200th and final test is underway, and at the end of the first day he's 38 not out, with India 157-2 against the West Indies.

    Time for one last century?

It looks scripted for the little master to make a century in this innings, he has started well and the pitch looks good, the windies bowlers look average so he's got every chance, I would love to see it happen,

Out for 74 in the end (so close) as India reached a first innings total of 495.

Still another knock to come though...

EDIT: Or not, the Windies are currently 28-2 and need to score another 285 to make India bat again. So that could be it for Tendulkar.

I managed to see most of the play this morning, through a few stifled yawns albeit... and it did indeed look as if he was going out with another century but a bit of a sloppy shot saw him get out.

and what a din the crowd was making, I know they normally are noisy but this was like a 20/20 game...

Someone ought to advise him to run for Prime Minister, it would be a landslide victory...

Well done Russy, I was up for it as well, not great the fitting end for the little master but as close it would get to it, he was the professional till the end, walked off as soon as he got caught, no emotion or theatrics. Legend pure legend, we have been lucky to have witnessed his reign
