  Wasn't lying though was he? RvP will be first choice all day long. Maybe Moyes was just trying to put him in his place? It obviously hasn't worked particularly well but it must be annoying to have a player constantly shouting the odds and giving it the big one.

  The thing is, he's not going to be looking at a massive hike in salary should he move. He's already on, what, £250,000 a week? Though I'm sure sitting on the bench every week might affect future endorsements...
  
  It's more about ego I think. After 12 years of being the 'saviour of English football' he can't fathom how he could possibly not be the first name on the team sheet.
  
  So having Jose Mourinho's eyelashes fluttering in his direction probably seems mighty appealing right now. Trouble is, Jose's a ruthless bastard. If Rooney signs, and carries on with the 'lazy lump of granny shagging lard' schtick, he'll find himself on the bench at Chelsea as well.
