  Was having a random look on Hmv (at things i can`t afford lol) and saw a game called Rocksmith, anyone on here have a clue what this is?
  
  Fairly certain it`s a new game in the style of Guitar Hero and Rockband, based on the title and the cover picture (gap in the market now that neither Guitar Hero or Rockband will be getting any new versions), but there is no information on it.
  Anyone else heard more about this?

  i played this a while ago at some trade fair thingy i think it was. it's not really a game as much as it is a way of learning to play the guitar.
  
  basically you take a real guitar and instead of plugging it into a amp you plug it into your console and then it has rockband style graphics and you play along so it sort of teaches you songs, how to play etc... and it obviously has difficulty levels for people who have never touched a guitar before (and yet for some reason own one to be able to use this software?) up to experts etc...
  
  for what it does it's pretty good fun but as i said it leans more to being a educational thing than it does a game like rockband of guitar hero

  I'm having a thought, did rock band three let you play with a real guitar, or am I imagining that, was it just the expert piano bit. I'd love a game where you could play the actual guitar, but with silly guitar hero overtones.

  technically it wasn't a real guitar no, i forget the name for the controller but basically it was the same size and shape as a actual guitar and it had strings that were about 4 or 5 inches long basically just long enough for you to strum and then it had tons of buttons, one for every fret on the neck. so that's about as close as you're going to get to what it is you're after. as i said the rocksmith game is just a elaborate way of learning guitar.

  Oh right, it`s more of a learn to play Guitar kind of thing, i just presumed from the name and the cover that it was like Guitar Hero and Rockband, there was absolutely no information with it at all.
  
  I do remember seeing the real guitar like controller for Guitar Hero, if i remember rightly it cost over a hundred pound, and i don`t see that anyone would really have spent that much on what was basically a fancy looking controller

  the real guitar was for rockband only as it had the expert + mode and it also had a expert drum kit and keyboard. they were worth the money as it actually made the games difficult playing on expert + as like i said the neck had buttons for every single fret and string.
  
  rocksmith does look like guitar hero/ rockband visually but you use a real guitar and sort of play along with the notes that come down the screen but you can only play it with a real guitar

  Ah I see, I think I'd have preferred to just play with my own far too expensive guitars when it gets to that difficulty. Sure they could do it the way they do with the singing, matching it pitch for pitch.
