  Has anyone bought or used one of the cheap Android Tablets ? I want to get a tablet that runs Android 2.2 or later . But I just want to use it as a fancy remote control for my home music server using the app for my Squeezebox Touch . So as long as it is qucik enough and good enough to run that then the cheaper the better. If anyone has any experience would appreciate your comments .

  So I guess that no one who uses this forum has any expereience of these devices ? I have looked at some of the real cheap ones that seem to have names you have never heard of but can not find even local discount shops that have any you could try just to see how bad they are or if they function good enough for them to work . The cheapest with a recognised name seems to be the Archos and after that you are looking at a Blackberry Playbook but these are a little OTT to use as just a glorified remote so will have to just keep searching e-bay and try and find a bargain.

  tbh i never put any faith in the sort of discount electronics you're talking about, you have to ask yourself just how low is the quality of the components that they can sell them for such a low price.
  
  even though you want one for a seriously basic use, it's still a false economy as they will break very quickly.
  
  to be honest your best off just buying a universal remote with a touch screen interface instead of buying a tablet and try to use it with custom software/programes

  Thanks for the advice and I appreciate what you are saying . It may well be false economy to buy something that cheap . However for the same price as a touch screen remote I could look at the Archos Android which sells through Carphone Warehouse (£100) This will proabaly do all that I need and is proably good enough to use for some other things as well .

  well as i said i personally wouldn't touch it, from what i experienced it's woefully sluggish and the screen is horrible to use.

  Thanks for your view I think what I will do is go to one of the CW stores and get them to give me a demo of one working then I can judge for myself if I can live with the unit . I am not that worried if it is a little slow as I am not going to use it for any surfing or other tasks that need to be smooth running. All I want is that it can use the current SBT apps and that it will let me control things from the listening seat .
