Premier League winter break

So apparently there's talk of bringing in a winter break once the current TV deal ends in 2019.
First, and most important thing you should know is that it's being proposed for January. They're not about to take away our Christmas football.
I'm really struggling to see how they'll be able to make room for it without reducing the number of games teams are expected to play though. The reason it works in places like Spain and Germany is because they only have one cup competition, with ties generally played midweek. We haven't got that breathing room.
So is all of this chat a starting point from which the Premier League then suggest ditching the league cup, doing away with two-legged semi finals or FA Cup replays? That might suit the few clubs who regularly go deep in to the European competitions, but how is less football a positive for the majority of teams and fans?
The only other argument in favour is that it'd benefit England at the World Cup and Euros. Sure. Still not likely to be winning them though, are we?
