  Cracking save from McGregor there. He concedes the penalty but is more than up to Frank Lampard's effort from the spot.

  2-0 at half time with Chelsea looking more than comfortable.
  
  Frank Lampard got over that penalty miss by scoring a 30-yard screamer of a free-kick. Before that, Oscar opened the scoring after some nice link-up play between him, Hazard and de Bruyne.
  
  Easy.

  The goal-line technology started to earn it's keep on the stroke of half-time after a clawing save from McGregor. It wasn't over the line but they've been given in the past.
  
  What's everyone thinking about the introduction of technology?

  It looked as though Chelsea would go and score a few more in the 2nd half, but Hull tightened up and kept the score at 2-0.
  
  A comfortable win for Jose Mourinho on his return to English football, and he did it without David Luiz and Juan Mata, who were both left on the bench. Maybe they're not 'Mourinho players' after all?

  i know it was only hull. but chelsea did look decent today and were very comfortable. do u think mourinho is gonna work his magic on them this season and really get them challenging.

  A touch late to the party but here are the teams for City v Newcastle:
  
  Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Fernandinho, Toure, Jesus Navas, Aguero, Silva, Dzeko. Subs: Milner, Nasri, Negredo, Kolarov, Javi Garcia, Rodwell, Pantilimon.
  
  Newcastle: Krul, Debuchy, Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa, Sissoko, Tiote, Gouffran, Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Cisse. Subs: Anita, Elliot, Marveaux, Shola Ameobi, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Dummett.
  
  Debuts for Fernandinho and Navas with Negredo on the bench. No sign of Jovetic. Newcastle have barely signed anyone of course, but Remy's not even in the squad.
  
  Oh yeah, it's 1-0 to City. David Silva after 6 mins.

  bit late for me to post my prediction for the game seeing it's already started and man city are already one up, but i would have went for a 3-0 win for city. i know that isn't too much of a stretch.

  Aguero with the goal after 22 mins. This could get embarrassing for the Geordies.

  i might have to rethink the scoreline that i went with. this could be massive if newcastle have a similar mentality to last season and get savaged here by city.

• CHELSEA v ASTON VILLA

  So with the European Super Cup scheduled for next Friday, and Chelsea playing in it, there's a Wednesday night game on the first midweek of the season!
  
  Chelsea have got Man Utd next Monday so there could be a bit of rotation from the team that beat Hull on Sunday. Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku all started that game on the bench and will be hoping for more action this evening. David Luiz is still ruled out injured though.
  
  Less options for Villa obviously so there probably won't be too many alterations to the side that so impressively turned Arsenal over on Saturday. There'll be one enforced change however, with Nathan Baker ruled out by a twisted ankle. Ciaran Clark could deputise.
  
  Kick-off is at 19:45, I'll post the line-ups before then.
