Saturday's games...
Newcastle v Chelsea 12:45
"It can transform your season, a win against Chelsea or Spurs, and that's what we have got to look for.” Alan Pardew there, speaking ahead of today’s early kick-off. You can’t fault his optimism, or the logic, but if it was that easy we’d all be doing it. Grabbing that elusive win will be made all the harder by the absence of of Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini, even Paul Dummett isn’t fit. No fresh injury concerns for Chelsea as they look to build on their impressive run of form.
Fulham v Man Utd
Not many people will be expecting a home win here but given the pressure Martin Jol is under at the moment, he’ll at least need to get a performance out of his side. No Brede Hangelaand or Hugo Rodallega for Fulham, while Danny Welbeck remains on United’s treatment table.
Hull v Sunderland
A couple of narrow defeats at White Hart Lane for Hull in the last week, but with a decent record at home so far this season, they’ll be hopeful of getting back on track here. Sone Aluko, Alex Bruce and Robbie Brady are all doubtful, whilst Danny Graham is ineligible to play against his parent club. No new injury concerns for Sunderland as they look to build on last week’s win over Newcastle.
Man City v Hull
Joe Hart’s been dropped! And given Norwich’s troubles in front of goal, Costel Pantilimon couldn’t have wished for an easier Premier League debut. The absence of van Wolfswinkel, Snodgrass and Redmond won’t help the Canaries in their quest to do a goal either. City are without Stevan Jovetic, Javi Garcia and Vincent Kompany.
Stoke v Southampton
The Saints should welcome back Dani Osvaldo and Steven Davis as they look to build on their impressive start to the season. Guly do Prado is their only notable absentee. Stoke are looking in good shape too, Andy Wilkinson being their only injury concern. The home side seem to have found their shooting boots in the past couple of games and ex-Saint Kenwyne Jones is pushing for a recall.
West Brom v Crystal Palace
Morgan Amalfitano and Scot Sinclair are doubts for the Baggies as they entertain the league’s bottom club this afternnon. No other fresh issues for them though, or Palace, and Jonny Parr could make his first appearance since April for the managerless Eagles.
West Ham v Aston Villa
The injury list isn’t easing for the Hammers, with Matty Taylor and Mladen Petric the latest additions. Carlton Cole isn’t fit yet, neither is Andy Carroll, so it could be 4-6-0 again for the home side. No Agbonlahor, Luna or Bennett for Villa in a game that both sides could really do with winning.
Arsenal v Liverpool 17:30
The big one, the ‘they might be title-challengers’ showdown! The defensive midfield positions could be a problem for the Gunners with Mathieu Flamini injured and Mikel Arteta suspended. Might be one for the SAS to take advantage of, Phillippe Coutinho too, he’s back in the squad after a six week lay-off. Still no Jose Enrique for the Scousers though.
