Premier League Player of the Season/Year
bencat > 27/02/2013, 12:25
As always as we get to this time of the year we have the start of the nominations and campaigns for who will be the player of the season/year.
There is always one player who has a purple patch about now which brings him to the front and that is Gareth Bale . His last 6 or so games have been really good and he has gained lots of attention but then they have forgotten the fairly patchy and quiet time he had before that.
Robin Van Persey has been the difference for UTD and has given them the goal they lacked form last season and will probably have won the league for them this year.
One player who I think has been outstanding from the start of the season and is still perfoming out of his skin week in week out will not get a look in which is Luis Suarez . He has been at many time this season unplayable and in the first six months carried LFC attacking threat on his own. With Danile Sturridge he has got help and switched his game and just worked hard . because of his poor image he will not get the votes but for me the real player of the season. -

I think Gareth Bale is a super talent and he has only this year started playing with more freedom and not just down the left or fight flanks. That has resulted in more goals and hence the recent purple patch.
Across the season so far, Van Persie and Suarez have been consistent with goals, and perhaps Michu at Swansea could join that list.
For player of the year, I would say Van Persie as he made the switch last Summer and bedded in remarkably quickly. He has been having another great season, the difference being he will get a medal this year. -

I would have to say agree with Redman, Player of the year may is Robin Van Persie, to continue what he was doing at Arsenal and then to walk into the ManUtd team and still produce the goods instantly as a immediate impact. The style of play probably suits Robin Van Persie better too whereas he isnt playing the lone striker role as much. -

I think this year will be one of the most tightly contested awards.
Personally I think it will (and should) go to Van Persie. His goals will be the difference between man Utd and man city and if you look away from his goals, he also takes a lot of the corners and free kicks so I reckon it's his all round contribution that's made the difference.
Bale and Suarez have been great too but I think Van Persie has been more consistent throughout the season.
Juan Mata should also get a mention. He's been brilliant in a lot of games and I think if he had been at a more stable club, he would've been even better. -

Van persie has been awesome this season. I would rate him up there for sure, along with michu (if he continues to score a few in the next ten games).
I play as a goalkeeper/defender so I would like to see more credit to these players as obviously strikers catch the headlines.
Begovic has stood out for me as a top keeper this season, and Lloris has done really well too in my opinion, even though just judging on goals against is a rather skewed way of seeing things.
As a west ham fan, Reid and O'brien have done well although not been so consistent, but for player of the year defender wise i wouldnt know who to pick outright. -

This is why in some way I hate this award and how soon it has to be decided. When I made the original post I would have agreed that RVP was looking to be the main contender but since then his form has dipped a bit .
Bale has been hailed as the next Ronaldo (too much too soon in my view) but has certianly put a decent set of games together .
Suarez meanwhile has just shown how consistent he can be and kept scoring and playing to a really high level. I know he will nto get the award due the baggage that surrounds him but even these have been addressed . On merit I now have to say that Suarez deserves the award but sadly I think it will go to Bale .
