Yep! I suppose the handicaps minimise the risk but overall are you better off doing them or keeping it simple and fluking the odd big win?

It depends on the game and the odds offered, for example if the bookies think it's a close result, you may get 7/5 - 8/5 - 6/4 say for the win - draw - win result but if you play just one you have 2 against you... If you play the handicap markets then in the same game you do 1 bet but get 2 outcomes covered, for lower odds of course but usually still better than covering 2 outcomes separately.
You can also play the 'Draw No Bet' which is also the 0.0 on the Asian Handicap, also lower odds and as suggests, your money back if it's a draw, but again gives some insurance on your cash...
The bookies like you to keep it simple and just play the win - draw - win outcomes as it maximises their profits...
2 other outcomes you can play without even caring who wins or not are the 'Both Teams To Score' and the Overs and Unders in the goal markets, usually most common is the over/under 2.5 goals...
These make good accumulators too with some bookies such as Betfred offering enhanced terms but they don't include all games, usually taking out the most favourable ones !!! again, Bastards aren't they...
and lastly, instead of betting 'For' something, you can use the exchanges such as Betfair to bet 'Against' an outcome or 'Lay' as it's known...
So if you put a lay on say Everton in todays match, if they lose or even draw you win..... more useful when there are 3 outcomes again... but you tend to play at higher odds on the exchanges as you bet against other bettors, not the company itself...
So if it all sounds complicated and that's just a fraction of what you can do, you may be better off just punting for the Wins and let your luck ride...
