Police arrest 'Nigerian prince' who turned out to be a pensioner from New Orleans

We've all received those emails claiming to be froma Nigerian prince offering you millions of pounds if you just send them your bank details and a small sum of money. I would hope that most people are smart enough to delete that shit but sadly there are some proper thicko's out there who actually believe these scammers. So many in fact, that Western Union has admitted to aiding wire fraud and have agreed to pay out over 500 million dollars to those who sent money to a Nigerian prince between January 2004 and January 2017. Wow. That's a lot of dumb people!

 

All this has come about after it was recently discovered that one on these 'Nigerian princes' wasn't actually from Nigeria at all (no shit) and was actually a 67-year-old dude called Michael Neu from Slidell, New Orleans. Neu claimed that he was originally scammed by a woman named ‘Maria Mendez’ but somewhere along the way he got roped into being a middle man for actual Nigerian princes and transferring money to them from other people that were getting scammed so they couldn’t be traced. Luckily he was arrested after an 18 month investigation and has since been charged with 269 different kinds of wire fraud and money laundering to the sum of $250,000.



I'm glad he's been arrested because clearly he's a piece of shit but I just struggle to feel sympathy for any of the greedy idiotic fuckers that sent money to this scammer in the hope that they would receive untold riches. What a bunch of plebs!
