  Southampton were close to signing Didier Drogba back in 2002. They offered Guingamp £1.5m, but the French club wanted £2.5m, and that was that.
  
  Still we did have Augustin Delgado at the time, and what a player he was...

  Apparently, while at Coventry, Gordan Strachan was in talks with Andrea Pirlo's agent about a possible move.

  While gordon strachan held the reins at coventry we actually had a player exchange programme with inter milan , thats how robbie keane got a transfer there .....

  I am sure we had a few under 21's cannot remember who though ... sums up strachans rein really ... Robbie Keane would have been early 20's

  Similar sort of time to when Mustapha Hadji and Youssef Chippo were playing for you? We had Hassan Kachloul, now there was a player. He made a mean kebab too, at least I think it was him, either that or his doppelgänger was running my local burger van. Those were the days...

  I still think that utd were in talks with shearer and gazza. What an epic time they could have had at utd. A shame we didn't see it but utd didn't fair too badly without them.

  Being a Birmingham City fan there are many nearly's and "if only's". Perhaps the biggest one is this one.

  Yes, Blues almost signed Gareth Bale at a time that he was struggling to get into the Spurs team. I think we could do with £85m now.

  Hearbreaking, Bob. Even worse than that though, when Southampton were skint we waived our sell-on-clause for him in exchange for a bit of cash and Tommy Forecast. Not sure how much we'd have been entitled to but even if it was just 10% that would have given us a nice £8.5m windfall this summer.
  
  As it was we only got about £7m for him in the end.

  i think with bale you never know, it was because he was struggling he was tried left wing. if he went birminham he might not have changed position or had the same run in team or form.
