    The Australian test batsman has died in hospital, aged 25. He was struck on the top of his neck by a Sean Abbott bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales on Sunday, and never regained consciousness.

    He played 26 tests for Australia, averaging 32.65, and also had spells in England with Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire.

    Proper sad news.

    Here he is at his best, scoring 126 for Australia against Sri Lanka in 2011.

    its sad to hear about phillip hughes was hoping he would pull thru
    how many have been hit on the head and just ended up with a scratch it was just an unfourtanate accident

    It was very sad to hear this morning that Phillip Hughes has died at only 25 years of age. I thought he was going to pull through. I am sure he would have gone on to reach the heights of the greats like Ian Botham, Mike Gatting, and Geoff Boycott. Such a great shame. I now hope the sports or cricketing commission now look further in providing cricketers with much better protection. I hope the fun and excitement from spinning and fast bowling won't lessen as a result of this tragedy.
