People are pretty pissed off about Sweden's man-free music festival

Apparently it’s only sexual discrimination if it’s men doing it to woman - when women do it, it’s “just a bit of banter”. At least that’s what a bunch of broads figured when they decided to set up ‘Statement Festival’ in Gothenburg, Sweden and make it an exclusive ‘women only’ event. 


 
The festival marketed itself as ‘the world’s first major music festival for women, non-binary and transgender only’ and stated that no men would be allowed to attend so the women could avoid rape and sexual assaults that were common at previous Swedish festivals. Yikes. Bit much thinking that every single dude wants to rape. The organisers did eventually allow men to attend, but they had to be restricted to a backstage ‘man pen’. This even included artists, technicians and members of their team too. Fucking crazy! I can imagine it’s only shot musicians that are being booked with this gig. Surely no send respecting high flyer would agree to being kept in a ‘man-pen’?!

 

It’s all just utterly ridiculous, and it seems Sweden’s Discrimination Ombudsman thought so too as they released a statement saying this: 

It was a violation of the prohibition of discrimination when the website of the music festival Statement and in statements from representatives of the festival revealed that cis men would not be allowed to enter the festival. On the other hand, the investigation does not support any person being discriminated against in connection with the festival’s implementation.

 


The organisers of the festival refused to comment on their man-hating views and just said that they’re “too busy changing the world’ to get upset about this controversy.” Yeah, good luck with that!

'Too busy changing the world...' fuck me what an inflated sense of self importance. There are people starving and fighting all over the world. Banning men from a music concert not really up there with world changing actions.
