The former Burnley and Bolton boss will take charge of the Latics after Roberto Martinez left for Everton.

European football, glamorous location and a delightful chairman - dream job really.

What do Wigan fans make of his appointment? Are either of you on here?

Quotes from Owen Coyle press conference:

"I've had seven/eight opportunities to get back in management but I've been waiting for the right club.

"I feel that this is the right job and I'm really looking forward to start working at this fantastic club.

"The Chairman has backed manager's in the past to bring players and we need to add to an already talented squad.

"I hope to be judged on the job I do here rather than my past and I'm looking forward to success here ."

"I'll look to utilise the loan market, but we won't sacrifice quality for quantity, we have to bring the right players in.

"I knew when I walked through the doors here that this was the job for me, it gave the impression of a terrific working environment.

"In the Europa League we have to make an impression on people and show them what a brilliant club this is."

For me it was a wonderful opportunity. We recognise the Championship as a tough league but I'm really excited to be a manager of a fantastic football club.

"I didn't want to the take a job for the sake of taking a job. We're very blessed that football has been kind to us.

"We know it will be difficult but we know the quality we have here and I'm sure we can become a formidable team.

"He [chairman Dave Whelan] backs his managers and that was something I was always envious of when I was at previous clubs."

"I feel this is the right job and I'm really looking forward to starting work at this fantastic club.

"Roberto Martinez is a great manager but I believe in my own abilities. I managed against him eight times and only lost once."

Not a Wigan fan but like many i have a soft spot for them.

The biggest task Coyle will have is keeping hold of players like Maloney, McCarthy and McManaman. They're by far Wigans best players and the core of their team. They will need to do all they can to keep hold of them.

He probably has room to let one of them go because it wouldn't surprise me if he signs Chris Eagles again and a couple of good loans they could bounce straight back.

I think they'll struggle to keep hold of their better players but at the same time I don't think they'll having any problem attracting the right sort of replacements. Even in the Premier League they were always a selling club so it won't come as any great shock.

I back them to do well next year, though having said that, the Championship is a funny old league and anything could happen really. Wondering how much of a strain and a distraction the Europa League will turn out to be as well.

It will be interesting to see how many stars they lose and who they can entice to replcae them. Coyle likes to play football and I think thats the main reason they went for him, to try and continue the Martinez style

Hopefully the European football dosent have to bigger an impact on their league form, would like to see them return to the Prem

Whealon did say that any transfer money they recieve will be reinvested into the squad, 100% so hopefully they get good money for anyone they sell

Well run club, and Dave Whelan's got a few bob behind him, so I can't imagine they'll be forced in to selling cheap. They'll wait for the right bids.

In terms of replacements, I can't see their being too much of a change in their recruitment policy and who they'll be able to attract. It'll still be players from Central America (they must have a brilliant scout out there) and young Brits. No Prem football obviously, but Europe will be a draw.
