  Snooker duznt get enough coverage? kiddin arnt you m8! when its on its on, its all day n nite! and i think boxing had an audience before Ali came along, what about just as 1 example Jake LaMotta the Raging Bull?

  I think Harddick is in some kind of weird time bubble, he's been writing posts about things that happened eons ago in sport, and as if they're still to happen?

  Clitterbug. I think there's been a misunderstanding about the level of coverage snooker get at the moment. You're right snooker at the moment gets lots of exposure. I didn't mean snooker doesn't get enough coverage now. I meant that when a game doesn't get enough recognition. Then they go to sky, cable and Euro sport Channels to try and get more exposure and get recognition as a sport that way. That's all I was using snooker as an example of how sports and games can get the recognition they deserve. Boxing had an audience true but the big money coming into boxing was a result of Muhammad Ali. If you like I can prove it with evidence. Just look at the purses boxers get now compared to back in say the 40s or 50s.
  
  RussyRover. I was just using Muhammad Ali and Bob Beamon as examples to explain the point that progressive levels of performance go along way to helping get a sport or game recognised.

  Well yea m8 the purses are well bigger now but money in all sport now is insane! Rory Mckilroy just signed a deal with Nike for £77 million over 5 years! thats £40,000 a day! and yes you can compare purses with 40-50s but then you can also compare wages and there will be a massive difference there too, the cost of living has changed quite signifficantly over the last 70 years, when i was 6 we lived in a part of liverpool that was demolished as part of the slum clearences of the late 60s early 70s i remember me mar sayin they had lost £150 on the house! when ours was taken under a compulsary purchase order, so they had origionaly bought a house for £200! so comparing purses dosent really mean much m8.

  Clitter! It's not just about the purses Muhammad Ali brought to boxing. It's true Rocky and raging bull brought boxing some exposure to boxing too. Those films are great. I still watch them when I can. This exposure Muhammad Ali brought to boxing made people see it as an entertaining event, possibly even political if you bring in muhammad ali's stance on vietnam and his conversion to islam.
  
  The audience before muhammad ali were more purists in terms of just fight fans turning up to watch a punch up. Those who were anti boxing wanted nothing to do with it. Muhammad Ali Changed all that.
