So im building a new PC and kinda been off the tech scene for a few years and was looking for recommendations on a good cpu and motherboard. I mainly require the computer for general work and the odd gaming session. So I thought I would go for an i5 processor. Shall I go for the newer Haswell ones or go for the Ivy/Sandy bridge ones?

Hi jjoo7 I recently built a new pc for myself so read up on a lot of the consumer level hardware choices out there right now.

A few questions first:

What size case have you got/looking to get?

Do you just use MS Office for work or other specialised programs?

What kind of games are you looking at playing?

With those answers I will have a better idea what kind of pc you are going to need

Well my work will be normal internet/email stuff plus a few software packages like MS Office and Photoshop etc. In terms of gaming, I dont game very often but when I do its just usually the odd Football Manager game, so nothing to heavy on the CPU lol. Ive got an Antec mid tower case, so decent amount of space.
