We all want to find out if there are other form of life out there, and today could be that day. Today, NASA will be hosting a live announcement about life on Europa, which is one of Jupiter’s moons.
NASA released this stament regarding the announcement:
Quote:NASA will host a Science Chat at 1 p.m. EDT Monday, May 14th, to discuss the latest analysis of Jupiter’s moon Europa and its status as one of the most promising places in the solar system to search for life.Europa has long been a high priority for exploration because beneath its icy crust lies a salty, liquid water ocean. NASA’s Europa Clipper, targeted to launch in 2022, will be equipped with the instruments necessary to determine whether Europa possesses the ingredients necessary to support life as we know it.
A few years back, NASA confirmed the presence of water vapour on the surface of Europa, which later confirmed the massive ocean under a huge layer of ice. NASA scientist Lorenz Roth said this about the findings:
Quote:This means that future investigations can directly investigate the chemical makeup of Europa’s potentially habitable environment without drilling through layers of ice…and that is tremendously exciting.
NASA are excited because water is one of the only major things you need for carbon-based life to exist. Scientists have no idea what life would be like on Europa compared to life on earth but that's what they aim to find out. There are millions of galaxies and stars and as Stephen Hawking once said, "it's pretty arrogant to assume we are the only form of evolved life." It's both scary and exciting. Sadly it probably won't be long before humans destroy that planet just like this one. Fucking parasites.
