Scheduled to be released on June 14, 2013...
Directed by Zack Snyder, produced by Christopher Nolan and scripted by David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series, portraying the character's origin story. The film stars Henry Cavill in the title role, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.
I'm not sure about Russell Crowe as Jor-El, to be honest, I would have like to have seen Terence Stamp do it, but maybe that would be too much of a tie to Smallville, and of course the original films.
Same for Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, he just doesn't seem the Jonathan Kent type of person to me...
Hans Zimmer initially denied popular rumours that he would be composing the film's score. However, in June 2012, it was confirmed that Zimmer will in fact be writing the film's musical score. To completely distinguish Man of Steel from the previous films, the iconic "Superman" theme by John Williams will not be heard.Weta Digital, MPC and Double Negative (VFX) will provide visual effects for the film.
It seems that they want a totally new feel to the franchise, so out with anything to do with the old...
Zack Snyder had this to say - from the LA Times -
"It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully."
It also seems that the JLA film, due to be released in 2015, will be at odds with this version of Superman, so it has been said that there may be a different Superman (and Batman) in the JLA film that the current stars.
Here's the trailer with voiceover from Jor-El...
and this for a little more
so what are your thoughts, a good idea to reboot it. It worked quite well for Batman, so I am hoping it will be just as awesome.
