I stand by my comment though Rafael has 2 international caps, has just under 100 appearances for Man Utd in how many years? He wouldn't get a look in in my reserve team. -

I stand by my comment though Rafael has 2 international caps, has just under 100 appearances for Man Utd in how many years? He wouldn't get a look in in my reserve team.
What a weird way to judge a players ability! He's actually made 158 appearances for United for what it's worth and for a newly turned 24 year old that's pretty good don't you think? Especially when you add in the fact that he was battling with Neville and Brown for the RB slot in his first 4/2 years here -

I wouldn't say it was a strange thing to say (98 premiership app BTW) obviously both coaches don't fancy him enough to give him more game time.
In my opinion from his performances over the last couple of seasons he has been nothing short of piss poor! -

What? He's been our first choice right back for years, hardly not getting any game time. Infact, if he continued getting 158 apps every 4 years he'd be on around 475 by the time he's 32 which would put him in the top 15 for all time United appearances.
International wise Rafael was blamed for Brazil's defeat in the Olympics in 2012, he hasn't featured for Brazil since.

I think Brazil would still be fucked whether they had Rafael or maicon at right back. Both are very average and the team as a whole weren't good enough. He did leave a couple out who should have went though. -

it's like clarence seedorf says about brazillians a lot of them achieve a certain level and then just get satisfied with themselves and stop.
but a few of those players had amazing careers - ronaldo and ronaldinho especially 2 and 3 time world players of the year is no joke.
for ronaldo injury was the big one he was never the same after (if you remember he wasn't even fat at first lol, guy was a great athlete...)
ronaldinho just needed the right influence - he got it at barcelona for a while but the rest of the time didn't so... -

It's what separates the best from the best really isn't it, the ones who can achieve it all and still have a hunger for more are the special ones -

that's true but sometimes huge talent plus decent attitude for a while beats average talent and huge attitude. ronaldinho is perfect example. worked his ass off for a good 2-3 years, best player in the world for those 2-3 years, then slacked off the rest of the time. result? better career than 99% of those who had more hunger than him... -

Yeah what I mean is there are two tiers of greats. Those who were fantastic but then dropped off once they had achieved what they wanted and those who just kept going and going.
Ronaldinho, original Ronaldo etc fall into the earlier group whereas Zidane, Giggs etc fall into the latter*
*I'm not saying they are better players, just that - for me - they have a higher legend status -

hmm maybe, maybe. zidane is a diffeent sort of player though - his career is much more evenly paced, he was not the best player on the planet in his early 20s like ronaldo was. he really is a maestro whereas ronaldo really was the phenomenon. but it is true what you say
