If you put your cursor over the photo, you will see it change shape to indicate that it is a link that will be followed if you click on it.
It is common practice on the web to click on a thumbnail to show a larger version of it or maybe the original picture. Clicking on it executes whatever program lies behind it. Mostly it is innocuous and does what you expect, like take you to a bigger picture or start a video, as happens when you click on a picture in the video section or to live action if you click on a picture at the top of this thread, one for each channel.
However, the program executed could do nasty things as well if you do not know the source of it and virus traps are all over the internet, waiting for an unsuspecting victim. The fact that it is unsolicited and sent here, from Russia of all places, is highly suspicious to say the least.
