    Exert from The Guardian.

“As of February 2025, the United Kingdom has not enacted a new law specifically mandating Apple to remove end-to-end encryption from iPhones. However, under the existing Investigatory Powers Act 2016, often referred to as the "Snoopers' Charter," the UK government has the authority to issue orders compelling companies to provide access to encrypted data. Recently, the UK government exercised this power by issuing a secret order to Apple, requiring the company to grant access to user data stored in iCloud. In response, Apple has discontinued its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) feature for UK users, which previously offered end-to-end encryption for iCloud data. This change means that while data on UK iPhones remains encrypted, backups and other data stored in iCloud are now accessible to Apple and, by extension, UK authorities with appropriate legal authorisation.”

A pantomime dame. Nothing turns him on more than slagging off Britain to a room full of Americans.
