Laptop infected with the world's deadliest viruses sells at auction for £1 million
It seems like anything qualifies as art these days. I reckon I could shit in a glass bowl, sprinkle on some leaves and whack a £300 price tag on it. You know some poncey cunt out there would buy it.
The newest “art piece” that collectors are going batshit for at the moment is an old windows XP laptop that is infected with 6 of the world’s most dangerous computer viruses. I know what you’re thinking - who on earth would want that shit, but apparently lots of people, because it just fetched £1 million at auction. The six viruses include the famous WannaCry ransomware that hit the NHS in 2017, as well as ILOVEYOU, MyDoom, DarkTequila, SoBig and Blackenergy. Why do they all have names like a bad horror movie?! These viruses are so dangerous that the Windows laptop has been quarantined in an ‘air-gapped’ environment for peoples safety. The art piece, named ‘Persistence of Chaos’, was created by artist Guo O Dong who collaborated with cybersecurity company Deep Instinct to create the piece. For those who don’t know much about viruses, the ones named above were responsible for crippling 74 countries at a cost of over £74 billion. Jeepers! I just hope they know who they sold it too. Something like that falling into the wrong hands could be pretty damaging. I think they should’ve burned the damn thing! Follow me on Twitter: @ReedeFox |

RE: Laptop infected with the world's deadliest viruses sells at auction for £1 million
It is terrifying that it is purchasable like this. It is so dangerous they have to quarantine it because I would imagine if it even sees a wifi network then at least one of those viruses will start spreading.
Given most countries entire infrastructure is based on computers now this is the equivalent of putting a nuke up for sale. Seems insane to me |
