Jon Bernthal has been putting on some killer performances of late, what with his role in ‘We Own This City’ and now a drama series on Showtime where he plays a high class hooker.
‘American Gigolo’ follows the character of Julian Kaye – who is the same character from the original 1980s movie. Here’s the official synopsis:
Quote:Julian (Richard Gere), a gigolo, commands high prices for his services, living a lavish and emotionally unattached lifestyle under the management of Anne (Nina van Pallandt). While secretly working for pimp Leon (Bill Duke), Julian is assigned to service Mr. Rheiman (Tom Stewart) and his wife, Judy (Patti Carr), but leaves when their violent requests make him nervous. When Mrs. Rheiman is found dead and no one is willing to testify on his behalf, Julian finds himself the primary suspect.

This looks amazing. Bernthal is an incredible actor, who I'm sure will eventually win an Oscar and an Emmy, and this story is intriguing. If it was just about the rise and fall of him being a gigolo then it could've easily been just a ninety minute film, but the subplot of him being framed for a murder that he didn't commit and then seeking revenge on the people that framed him is perfect for a limited series. Rosie O'Donnell and Wayne Brady as the supporting cast are great additions too. Also I really love the cinematography and the production design. It looks so expensive and classy, but also really dark and seedy at the same time.
