JANUARY SALES: A NEW MIDFIELD FOR MAN UTD

Despite only signing a new contract 5 minutes ago, Luis Suarez is being linked with a summer move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona, and Real are hoping Wayne Rooney will stall on his new deal so they can get him as well, on the cheap.
Hold on, back up. Why are we hearing about Summertime rumours when the January window’s only 5 days away? One at a time…
Man Utd’s midfield eh? What to do? Replace them with Everton Ribeiro, Koke, Marco Reus and Adam Lallana? Could work, could cost about £100m though. Well, £100m minus the cash they’ll recoup by flogging Nani to Juventus. £98m then.
Chelsea are threatening to go large too, though you could argue that some of these are a touch far-fetched. A double swoop for Benfica pair Lazar Markovic and Nemanja Matic sounds about right, but it seems unlikely that they’d get Gonzalo Higuain just 6 months after he joined Napoli, even for £48m. Luke Shaw’s being mentioned again too after Ashley Cole, like a turkey topically voting for Christmas, urged Jose to sign him up!
Which brings us on nicely to Wayne Bridge. The former Southampton and Chelsea left back is getting the eye from Gus Poyet, who’ll also make a £2m move for Liam Bridcutt. They both play for Brighton, see. Gus used to manage Brighton and as we all know, managers are an awfully unimaginative bunch.
Arsene Wenger’s been told to cough up £22m if he wants to bag himself a Yohann Cabaye. Sounds like Newcastle are playing hardball. Not to worry, if it doesn’t come off there’s always Iker Casillas and Alvaro Morato from that Real Madrid. Pedro too, but the Gunners face (stiff) competition from Liverpool for his signature. It could be argued that Barca will keep hold of him ta, but the same could be said about the majority of the names here, so lets go with it.
Sunderland and West Brom are scoring so many goals right now that they’re willing to let Steven Fletcher and Shane Long join Hull. Asamoah Gyan, meanwhile, is West Ham’s latest saviour in waiting.
And last but by no means least, Bafetimbi Gomis is back! The Newcastle ship sailed long ago of course, but Spurs are interested now. £5m, cheers Tim!
5 days to go!
