The 90s may have churned out some cringe films with cheesy lines but my god, they were brilliant. Movies such as
Con Air, Terminator 2, Total Recall and
Face/Off have all stood the test of time and still to this day, remain some of the best action films of all time. After action classic Total Recall was rebooted, rather unsuccessfully in 2012, producers jumped on the bandwagon to see what other films could use a reboot, and they've chosen
Face/Off as the next film to butcher.
For those who haven't seen
Face/Off, the movie sees Nicolas Cage and John Travolta swap faces and get up to all kinds of shit, including Nic Cage shagging Travolta’s wife in one ludicrous scene. Like I’m pretty sure she’d notice his knob had completely changed but hey, you could get away with this stuff in the 90s?! Anyhoo, It’s got some cheesy lines and proper ridiculous dialogue but it’s one of the most entertaining films I’ve ever seen.
Why they’ve decided to reboot it is beyond me because you can’t improve on perfection, but money talks and now Hollywood have got their grubby claws into it. Apparently a dude called Oren Uziel will be writing the script – having previously
written 22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox and the new
Sonic The Hedgehog movie, and
Fast And Furious creative named Neil Moritz is onboard too.
I know I sound like a bit of a naysayer but history tell me that reboots of old classics are pretty shit. However, I’ll give it a chance because every movie deserves at least that. It’s still in production stages at the moment but I’ll keep you in the loop regarding cast and directors as more info is revealed.
