Insidious: The Dark Realm

I remember watching the first Insidious movie many years ago and considering it uses jump scares, an absolute peeve of mine in the genre it still managed to create some very creepy moments through great character design, haunting audio and great mise en scene. It was a film I would have recommended but sadly as with most horror that does well a spree of less well thought out and entirely obvious sequels then spring up in it’s wake and Insidious was no exception to this rule sporting 3 more movies after the first instalment all of which were absolute trite nonsense.
The franchise was left to settle now to be reawakened, sporting James Wan the director of the first movie as well as several other well renowned horror and fantasy movies returns as producer and Patrick Wilson, one of the leads from the first movie returns in a directorial role. It’s good to see that not only Rose Byrne will be back and lets face it she can afford to be choosey about the roles she takes but also all cast member from the first movie will be returning. Let’s hope this movie will ignore the other sequels and pick up as a sort of rebooted sequel to the first film.
The movie appears to centre itself around the hellish dimensions where all of the creeps and ghouls reside, waiting to unleash themselves. I’m sure there will be a few more trailers to follow that give us more information but one thing is unclear, the timeline. We see characters who died in the first movie, fully back to life so maybe we’ll be sent forward and back in time to see the origins of the dark realm which could be a lot of fun.
