There's a new movie coming out based on the 1978 Stephen King novel, The Stand and it's set in a time when humanity has pretty much all been wiped by a deadly virus. If this story sounds familiar it's probably because there was a series of the same name that came out in 1994. It was pretty good actually. I remember watching it when I was about 11. Here's the opening scene if you fancy a trip down memory lane:
The Stand remake is set in a world where most of the world's population has died from weaponized influenza and society breaks down. A supernatural baddie (Alexander Skarsgard) then sets out to encourage violence and destruction, while 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) leads a group of goodies against him. Looks decent, and pretty apt that they'd remake this kind of film in today's current climate. It might be a good idea to have something hapy and cheerful to watch after this just so you don't fall into a deep depression. Fantasia or Neverending Story perhaps?!
The Stand is released on 17th December.
