  You are indeed not correct with Beverly Hills cop either, The second still is from the opening 5 munites of the film, and the first still was not much further into it.
  
  Seeing as this is proving to be a challenge here's a closer look at one of the main characters.

  Yeah i think i`m out of this one mate lol, two totally wrong guesses and i still don`t know what it is, and that last picture really didn`t help me so either i`ve not seen it or i just don`t remember it, but whichever it is i give up and i`m just going to leave this to someone else and wait for the next one.

  well from what i can see that picture looks like a young denzel washington, and if it is i am almost certain i have never seen that film, and even if it is not him then i don't think i have seen it lol. looks like you've done well, a few pictures posted and no one can figure it out lol

  would it help if i told you that yes it was Denzel Washinton, and the other main Character was played by John Lithgow?
  
  In case you don't know who John Lithgow is he was in 3rd rock from teh sun as the dad type alien and he was also in cliffhanger with Sly Stalone.

  I know who John Lithgow is and he is very recognisable(was a big 3rd rock fan), but the only other film off the top of my head that i can actually remember that he was in is Raising Kain(or it might be spelt cain) but i really don't think it's that, i'll guess Raising Cain anyway just incase.
  If it's not that then i really do give up.

  after a lot of thinking the only film i've seen that i can remember with both denzel and john would be the pelican brief, but i can't remember enough of it to tell if that's a good guess or not

  While they were both in Pelican Brief that's not the film in the stills. I think it's time to tell you.
  
  The answer is "Ricochet" a film from 1991 about a rookie cop who makes headline news when he takes down a gunman by undressing in front of him then shooting him in the knee with a concealed weapon. He goes on to work for the DA before the gunman takes his revenge.
  
  I will post a new picture later today. It may even be a little less obscure, but that depends on your movie watching habits i guess.
