  I was sure it was animation, but in the case that it isn`t an animated film there is one film i think it could be, i think it was A Scanner Darkly, it was live action but had a layer of cgi over the top to create a weird effect, but i can`t remember if it looked like that, but as that is the only other film i can think of that it might be then that has to be my guess.

  nope, all the character are just humans! no special filters or anything the CGI i was referring too was because quite a bit takes place in space so it's used for the outside shots.
  
  i will give one clue as no one else seems to be guessing, it's from a film i heavily recommended people watch fairly recently.
  
  oh and also the style of a canner darkly was probably best described as cell shaded i guess you'd call it.

  A Scanner Darkly looked like the video game Borderlands as that's cell shaded too. As for this film, I have no idea.

  yep that's the one mate! i've said it before but i'll say it again, anyone who's not seen it and likes sci fi even a tiny bit, or even if you don't like sci fi and just think the idea of fighting space nazi's sounds kick ass then you need to see this film!
  
  i don't want to big it up too much as i don't want anyone who watches it to be disappointed but i really do want people to watch it as i thought it was fantastic.
