Chelsea
That defeat to Basel seems a while ago now. If the Blues can beat Schalke at home in the next round of matches (and after Tuesday’s display there’s no reason to believe they won’t) they’ll be as good as through. Things certainly seem to be on the up for Mourinho, after an underwhelming start to his second stint as manager, Chelsea have now scored 14 in their last 4 matches. Fernando Torres got 2 of those on Tuesday, which won’t do his confidence any harm of course, but those pointing to another new dawn should bear in mind his impressive record in Europe over the last couple of seasons. It’s the Premier League where he still needs to prove himself.
Man City
Given he amount of times City have under-performed against lesser (or less expensively assembled) sides in Europe, can they even be called upsets anymore? Last night’s match in a far-away land, on a dodgy pitch, with Javi Garcia at centre half could have been quite the banana skin. As it was, a 2-1 victory claimed with minimal fuss leaves them looking as though they might actually reach the knockout stages. Nosebleed territory.
Celtic
A thoroughly impressive display against an Ajax side that had the potential to cause them problems. If they can get something from the return fixture then they’ll be looking good for a Europa League spot, not to be sniffed at when Barca and Milan make up the rest of the group.
Man Utd
Again they failed to make their dominance count, and only got the 3 points thanks to an own goal, but a win’s a win. Moyes will take that.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
4 goals!

Arsenal
A narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Dortmund is nothing to be ashamed of in itself, but in the context of Group F it’s a major worry. The Gunners sit top for now, but that’s only a result of their superior head-to-head-to-head record against last night’s opponents and Napoli so far. All 3 have 6 points, and with trips to Germany and Italy still to come, Arsenal are in real danger of not making the knockout stages.
