  No time to dwell on the drama at Silverstone last time out, it's straight to the Nurburgring for the German Grand Prix this weekend.
  
  Lewis Hamilton took first place the last time the race was held here in 2011 (Hockenheim gets the even years) and will be hoping for a repeat performance this year, in doing so giving Mercedes their first home Grand Prix win in near on half a century. Nico Rosberg will fancy his chances too after winning at Silverstone, as will Mark Webber who looked quick in that race. And of course Sebastien Vettel will be hoping to get over the disappointment of last weekend with a win in front of his home crowd.
  
  Practice begins at 08:45 (our time) on Friday morning.
  
  Predictions?

  Lewis Hamilton for the treble; Quickest qualifying, fastest lap and race win, gotta be worth a punt at around 20/1

  Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg says he is out to "annoy" championship leader Sebastian Vettel, but is not yet thinking about his own title challenge.
  "It's too early to say we are title contenders and I'm just focusing on keeping the momentum going," he said.
  "I don't really want to speak about titles yet.
  "Short term, I just want to annoy Red Bull and Sebastian by being ahead of them race by race."

  The Formula 1 drivers have threatened to boycott Sunday's German Grand Prix if there is a repeat of the tyre failures experienced at Silverstone.
  The Grand Prix Drivers' Association, which represents the vast majority of drivers, said its members wanted to express their "deepest concerns".
  The GPDA added: "If similar problems manifest themselves at the German GP, we shall immediately withdraw."
  
  Sounds like a bit of bluster as due to the tyres being changed it was very unlikely that the same failures would be experienced and none happened during first practice...
  
  
  
  Lewis Hamilton pipped Nico Rosberg in first practice at the Nurburgring as Mercedes' continue to be strong. Hamilton was 0.219 seconds quicker and just over a second ahead of Mark Webber in third. Adrian Sutil was fourth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.
  
  Sebastian Vettel was eighth fastest as rival Fernando Alonso had a troubled session for Ferrari, failing to complete a flying lap. Alonso's car ground to a halt out on the track on his very first lap and after the team repaired it and sent him out the same problem, believed to be with the electrics, recurred. This time, Alonso managed to crawl back to the pits but he failed to get out for the rest of the session.
  Meanwhile Felipe Massa was sixth fastest, 1.372secs slower than Hamilton. Jenson Button was seventh and Paul Di Resta 10th.

  You'd have to assume that Pirelli know what they're doing here (I'd be worried if they didn't) and that this weekend will go off without incident.
  
  How long were they using the dodgy tyres for? Was it just Silverstone? I remember hearing something about rough, sharp kerbs last weekend so maybe that was a factor.
  
  Hamilton quickest then. Have you had some of that 20/1 action on a Hamilton triple Russy?
