If you want to escape reality for a bit (which I strongly recommend during these shitty times) then Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming new film
Free Guy is right up your ally.
In this film, Ryan Reynolds plays Guy, an NPC (non-player character) in a computer game. So basically he’s like one of those non-important characters you see walking about in Grand Theft Auto. Things start getting crazy when he spots stunning rogue character Milly (Jodie Comer) and becomes self aware within the open world game.
Check out the trailer and synopsis below.
Quote:In the open world video game Free City, an amalgamation of Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite, Guy (Reynolds) is a non-player character (NPC) working as a bank teller.
Thanks to a program developed by programmers Milly (Comer) and Keys (Keery) inserted into Free City by the publisher Antoine (Waititi), Guy becomes aware of his world being a video game, and takes steps to make himself the hero, creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.
It’s like
Ready Player One crossed with
Westworld (before it got shit) and I’m totally down for it. It’s from the producers of
Deadpool too and features Ryan’s typical comedic shtick so count me in.
Free Guy is due for UK release early December but with Cinemas closing left right and centre, who knows where it will land. Netflix maybe? Who knows.
