I’ve always been a huge fan of Chris Morris -
The Day Today and
Brass Eye are possibly the funniest shows ever created, but Morris has been rather quiet on the writing and producing front in recent years. His last movie was
Four Lions which was released nearly a decade ago, so when he recently announced his upcoming movie titled ‘The Day Shall Come’, I was pretty darn excited.
Morris announced that he’s already shot the new movie and that it’ll be premiering at SXSW in Texas this March. Just
like Four Lions, Morris will team up with
Peep Show co-creater Jesse Armstrong and it will again focus on terrorism, and focus on a character called Moses Al Bey Al Shabazz.
The movie is set in 2013 and revolves around a poor preacher called Moses who is being offered money by a mysterious stranger to prevent his family from being evicted. Moses has no idea that the generous stranger works for the FBI and wants to turn him into a criminal by ‘fueling his madcap revolutionary dreams’. Hmm, it doesn’t sound funny in the slightest but hopefully there will be some comedic moments.
As reported in iNews reports, there are parallels to Malcolm X in the film. Moses’ full name is Moses Al Bey Al Shabazz. Shabazz was the surname taken by Malcolm X and his family after he rejected the Nation of Islam. The website also says that Malcolm Latif Shabazz, Malcolm X’s grandson, was a spokesperson for Islamic and African-American causes in Miami when he was killed in 2013 under mysterious circumstances linked to the FBI.
The film premieres at the SXSW in Texas this March so will probably be available to the rest of us not long after.
