FIFA Uncovered

What a fascinating documentary, and it would be perfect for a decade spanning dramatization in the mould of The Crown. Seeing how FIFA changed once Havelange became President because he vowed to ostracise South Africa due to apartheid. And they then hired Blatter to generate an income for them by forging a sponsorship deal with Coca-Cola was insightful. Even the part Adidas played in terms of underhandedly gaining their marketing rights was intriguing. Most of the four part documentary does cover the corruption scandals that the FBI recently became involved in after the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar. Multiple governments across the globe where involved and were all looking to line their own pockets and strike deals for their own benefit. It nicely tied into how FIFA has always been and probably always will be corrupt, and how brutally anti-humane and fascistic governments have used sportswashing as a tool since the 1978 World Cup and 1938 Olympics. The saddest part is that with all the money involved in FIFA, even the players are financially exploited. And all the talk about donations for the development of football for young children are just backhanders for pen-pushers with no love for the game.
