The midfield is subpar at best, lacking in quality. Barkley and Henderson can't even get in the first team for their clubs. And where is Loftus-Cheek?

As for forwards, standard. Although, how is Callum Wilson not on the list?

Struggle to get excited about England nowadays, think it is more like Gareth's fantasy football but still not sure he knows who his form players are? As he still keeps picking some of the same dreadful players who seem to have a pipe and slippers at St George's Park! Bore off England.

Still not convinced that he is picking form players still majority from the big clubs with even some youngsters on loan from big clubs! Maybe it is my Croydon blinkers but think he is a yes man, test will be without Dan Ashworth who has overseen the changes at all levels with England's age groups.

At long fucking last a decent centre back being recognised, sad that it has taken 6 years for another call up for Dunky except this is a senior call up. Yes maybe I was pissed that a Brighton playing in good form was overlooked and seeing some of the dross there instead Jones, Smalling and Tarkowski really? Fingers crossed he gets some game time!

No, can't say I'm that excited about England. We went far in the World Cup but it doesn't mean we were that good. We were good enough to get that far but against anyone decent (Belgium, Colombia, Croatia and Spain since the World Cup) we've been found out. We've only won 2 of our last 7 matches and I don't think we play that well so I can't join in all the optimism around the team and Southgate.

The thing is with england team we have to understand where we really are in terms of world football which is probably qrt finals at best . So the semi final regardless of the teams we played is a massive achievement on southgates behalf

I agree. You can only beat who is put in front of your and we did to get to the semi-finals. As I said, you don't have to be good, you just have to be good enough in a cup competition. Just look at Portugal in 2016. I also agree that quarter-finals is probably around our level, hence why I'm not getting carried away with the World Cup result like quite a lot of people appear to be.
