Don’t get me wrong, I love a big plate of beans on toast, especially when the toast goes all soggy from the bean juice but I wouldn’t go as saying I’m obsessed, and I certainly wouldn’t change my name to Mrs Bean.
However, some people take their live of a certain food a little far - take Barry Kirk for example. He changed his name by deed poll to Captain Beany in 1991 and has never looked back.
He first began painting his face and bald head orange in the 1980’s before eventually getting his whole noggin tattooed. If you’re wondering what Captain Beany likes to wear, unsurprisingly it’s not as cool at Batman’s get-up. Beany likes to don a golden cape with orange trousers, top and boots.
Captain Beany doesn’t just strut around in his weird outfits like a crazy person, he’s actually raised thousands of pounds for charity and has become somewhat of a local celebrity in his hometown of Port Talbot, Wales.
He’s even opened his own home to the public, which is bursting with Heinz memorabilia and orange furniture. According to TripAdvisor, Captain Beany’s Baked Bean Museum of Excellence has a 5-star rating. So if you’re ever mosying through Port Talbot, pay the Captain a little visit, maybe share a mug of beans.
