  Netherlands great Johan Cruyff dies of cancer aged 68
  
  Netherlands great Johan Cruyff has died of cancer aged 68, his official website announces.
  
  The site said he was surrounded by friends and family in Barcelona.
  The three-time Ballon d'Or winner was told of his illness in October.
  
  Cruyff won three consecutive European Cups with Ajax as a player and went on to manage Barcelona to their first European Cup win in 1992
  
  Fucking huge loss,the game has lost the master :(

  Well shocked by this news tbh :( He was probably my overall favourite of the three legends (my three main legends anyway). That technique.. fucking beautiful.

  Stupid as it may sound, its actually brought a tear to my eye. Really appreciated that guys footballing skills. Might not have been around when he did lots of stuff but one can still appreciate what he did.

  Johan Cruyff - a true legend of the game!  Sad news about his passing.  Scotty and others are right about him - his style, technique, THAT turn - all beautiful!
  
  Everyone the World over would have seen how good he was, back in the late 60's, the 70's, even the early 80's, and imagine how much more coverage he would have got, had the internet etc been around then!
  
  Wonderful Footballer, and he always came across as very knowledgeable, very calm, when working as a pundit on BBC.  A man who knew what he was talking about, and had been there, done it on the pitch, and was respected the World over.

  That European Cup winning Ajax side in 95; Guardiola, Barcelona, tiki-taka; both of those clubs' academies and all the players they've produced in more recent times...
  
  All, to varying degrees, Cruyff's work.  We've been around for plenty of his stuff.
  
  Pele and Maradona were arguably better players but when it comes to legacy and influence they're nowhere near him.
