Not sure what current characters I'd choose as I mainly watch comedies where the main characters would'nt necessarily be considered cool.I have honestly never seen a single episode of Magnum PI i just know that tom selleck famously plays the part and thats about it lol.

I was thinking more about characters like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory who is brillant but could'nt be considered cool.Yeah Sheldon no matter how brilliant a character he is, can't really be considered cool, but then to be honest i can't think of many other characters from comedy programs that i would say are really all that cool, except maybe Ace Rimmer from red dwarf.

I sort of have that same problem with Magnum PI aswell it's quite distracting to me that moustache lol.

i don't see how the fact he's gay in real life has anything to do with it in the slightest. he's an actor, even if he was straight it doesn't mean he would be remotely like barney in real life. in just the same way that i feel very sure that pretty much no actor who has played a very cool part is remotely that cool in real life
if anything the fact that neil patrick harris is gay irl adds to the character as it just shows he's a great actor
