  Fair play on the director mix up, it happens lol. Donnt get me wrong i did enjoy Burtons Batman, the sequel not so much. Didnt hate it but wasnt overly impressed either. I also enjoyed Superman 1 and 2 (for me, went a little south after that). Trouble is, after these we went for seemingly an eternity of comic inspired movies that were just too light hearted or attempted to introduce fluff and comedy. After that having the brooding of movies such as Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Trilogy really was a welcome change (and given how well they performed, its safe to assume that many are in agreement). For me, bring on the dark, broody dc / marvel movies. The more the merrier.

  I don't think Burtons Batman was gritty at all. Dark yes, and very camp. But not gritty or grounded which Nolan did. Man of Steel wasn't that great but i was entertained.
  
  I'd like to see David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven, Social Network) to handle a Superhero movie or Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan). These two would do some dark shit for sure!

  Totally with ya Randy Marsh. Burtons Batman, while dark, camp, ott in places and very well played by its leads, could not really be considered gritty (unless lined up against the Kilmer and Clooney movies, by comparrison Burtons would be proper dark lol). Fincher or Aronofsky, they could pull something special out of the bag. Ive got high hopes for Ayer's Suicide Squad (given that 2 of his previous efforts include the great Fury and for me, the fantastic End of Watch..those 2 films didnt exactly mess about with some strong performances as well).
