TUESDAY
Man City v CSKA Moscow
They managed a win in Moscow and there’s no reason to believe City won’t do the same tonight. You’re probably going to want more of an incentive than 1/5 to back them though, so after putting 7 past Norwich at the weekend, how about 4.5+ goals in the match at 14/5? Can’t see them keeping a clean sheet mind, so BTTS at 23/20 looks tempting as well. Steering clear of the scorer markets until we know who’s starting.
Prediction: 3-1 (11-1), or possibly 4-1 at 16s.
Real Sociedad v Man Utd
Sociedad’s form has picked up since the last time these two met and they go in to tonight’s match on the back of a 5-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga. United have improved too of course, but while I can’t see them losing, I’m hesitant to back them for the win, even at 7/5. The double chance at 1.39 seems a better bet. David Moyes doesn’t seem to have fully grasped this squad rotation lark yet so there’s no reason not to back Rooney to score first at 7/1.
Prediction: 1-2 (8/1)
Predictions for tonight’s other games:
Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Bayer 04 Leverkusen (12/1)
FC Copenhagen 0-1 Galatasaray (8/1)
Juventus 1-3 Real Madrid (18/1)
Olympiakos 1-1 Benfica (11/2)
Paris Saint Germain 4-1 RSC Anderlecht (16/1)
Viktoria Plzen 0-4 Bayern Munich (9/1)
Tuesday Accumulator: £5 on wins for Galatasaray, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich returns just under £40.
WEDNESDAY
Dortmund v Arsenal
I can’t help but think back to the Gunners’ win in Munich last season after getting tonked in the home leg, and Saturday’s win over Liverpool won’t have done their confidence any harm either. Stopping short of actually backing them to take the 3 points, the draw at 3/1 is tempting. And Ramsey’s 12/1 to score first, worth a quid all day long. The Welsman to score first and the game end 1-1 is so crazy (75/1) it just might work.
Prediction: 1-1 (15/2)
Chelsea v Schalke
Difficult to know what to say about this one. Chelsea won 3-0 in Germany so you can’t argue with them being as short as 2/5 for the win here. On the other hand, they did lose to Newcastle at the weekend so the draw at 7/2 might be worth a look if you’re feeling mischievous. Torres is out injured so Eto’o at 9/2 seems the most sensible choice for first goal.
Prediction: 2-0 (7/1)
Ajax v Celtic
Celtic took me by surprise when they beat Ajax in Glasgow the other week, but facing them in Amsterdam will surely be a stiffer test. The draw at 11/4 seems plausible but you can keep the away win at 10/3.
Prediction: 1-1 (13/2)
Predictions for Wednesday’s other games:
Basel 2-1 Steaua Bucharest (7/1)
Napoli 2-0 Marseille (6/1)
Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 FC Porto (7/1)
Atlético Madrid 4-0 FK Austria Vienna (7/1)
Barcelona 2-0 Milan (13/2)
Wednesday Accumulator: Not as lucrative, but £5 on wins for Barcelona, Basel, Chelsea and Napoli returns just over £18.
